Visit the University of Athens Observatory

School Visits and Public Nights

The University of Athens Observatory accepts organized visits from schoold and groups in general, in the frame of education and public outreach on various astrophysical topics. The visits can be done during the entire day, except official holidays or when other events are organized.

Those who are interested to visit the University of Athens Observatory should contact Dr. Kosmas Gazeas, Lecturer of Astrophysics at the Department of Astrophysics, Astronomy and Mechanics, and telescope operator.

Maximum number of visitors in a single group cannot exceed 30, due to the limited space in the facilities.

The program lasts for ~45 minutes (one academic hour) and includes a short introduction about the history and the current research activity of the University of Athens Observatory, detailed description of its facilities, and a visit at the telescope and dome. Weather permiting, there is an option of observing the sky (Sun during the day or stars and planets during the night). The cost is 5 Euros for each visitor.

The University of Athens Observatory is located on the roof of the Physics Faculty at the University of Athens, in Zografos University Campus.

For more information you can contact Dr. Kosmas Gazeas by calling at the observatory (+30 210 7276858) or via email (observatory@phys.uoa.gr).
