Vassilis Pavlopoulos graduated from the Department of Philosophy, Pedagogy, and Psychology (major in Psychology) of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1992. He conducted his doctoral studies with a scholarship from the Greek State Scholarships Foundation and received his PhD degree in Social Psychology from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 1998 (graduated with honors). His thesis was on parental perceptions of children's personality.
Between 2000-2004 he worked as a teaching and research scientist in the Department of Psychology of the University of Crete, and in the Department of Primary Education of the University of Patras. He has been a full member of the teaching staff of the Department of Psychology, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, in the positions of Lecturer (2004), Assistant Professor (2009), Associate Professor (2015) and Professor (2021) of Cross-Cultural Social Psychology. He teaches Cross-Cultural and Social Psychology classes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels (see Classes). Also, he is director of the Laboratory of Applied Cross-Cultural and Social Psychology.
His current research interests focus on acculturation and intercultural relations, resilience processes of immigrant youth, ideologies of cultural diversity, perceived discrimination and norms of social justice, cross-cultural study of values, youth political participation and active citizenship (see Research). In addition to his teaching and research work, Vassilis Pavlopoulos is coordinator of the internal evaluation committee, member of the undergraduate program committee, and former scientific coordinator of the practice internship committee of the Department of Psychology. He is consulting editor/reviewer for international journals and a registered evaluator for the National Academic Recognition Information Center and for national research funding institutions. He has been associate editor of Psychology: The Journal of the Hellenic Psychological Society (2015-2019), board member of the Hellenic Psychological Society (2022-2024), and coordinator of HPS Social Psychology (2007-2015) and Cross-Cultural Psychology (2017-2021) divisions. Also, he has been member of the organizing and scientific committees of Hellenic and international conferences.
