RESEARCH FIELD

-Isolation of compounds with pharmaceutical and nutritional interest from natural sources. Search of new lead compounds from microorganisms, plants and marine oganisms from Greek and Mediterranean flora and sea. Investigation of plants from tropical regions.

-Design and synthesis of new molecules with pharmacological interest (kinase inhibitors, neuroprotective agents, antitumor, antibiotics) based on a natural product core; structure-activity relationships, optimization of lead compounds.

-Natural products structure determination using modern NMR techniques, Mass spectrometry and Molecular Modeling.

-Receptor-ligand interaction using in silico technics

-Investigation of natural lead compounds based on plants recorded in historical texts (archaeopharmacology)

-Treatment of agricultural wastes for the large scale production of high added value natural products

-Essential oils, volatile, flavor and aroma constituents
