GEORGIADIS RESEARCH GROUP

NATiONAL AND KAPODISTRIAN UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS

Dimitris Georgiadis was born in Athens, Greece. In 1995, he received his B.Sc. in Chemistry from the Dept. of Chemistry of National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In 1996, he earned a 3-year Ph.D. scholarship from the National Scholarship Foundation of Greece and in 2000 he completed his PhD working under the supervision of Professor Athanasios Yiotakis. In the same year, he moved to Paris (France) to work as a postdoctoral fellow in the research group of Dr Vincent Dive (Commissariat à L' Énergie Atomique, CEA). His research in CEA resulted in the successful discovery of the selective C-domain selective inhibitor of angiotensin-converting enzyme RXPA380, the first paradigm of a next-generation, safer antihypertensive agent. In 2003, he completed his military service in the Greek Army and in 2004 he was elected Lecturer in Organic Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. In the following years, D. Georgiadis was promoted to Assistant Professor (2009), tenured Assistant Professor (2013), Associate Professor (2016) and Full Professor in Organic Chemistry (2020) at the same department. His research interests include the design, synthesis and SAR studies of medicinally relevant Zn-protease inhibitors, the development of novel strategies to address synthetic challenges in the field of phosphorus-containing bioactive compounds and the transformation of such compounds to biochemical tools for innovative applications in chemical biology and medicine. In 2014, D. Georgiadis was a co-awardee of a prestigious Academy of Athens award for his studies on the development of ER aminopeptidase inhibitors (read more here). His published work includes 55 publications to high impact journals (mean impact factor: 5.8), 2 patents, 1 book chapter, >50 conference presentations, >2000 citations and "h" index 28 (Scopus & WOS 2021).
