The goal of this website is the research in the contemporary Greek
Orthodox Ecclesiastical Music (or Chanting Art) or Byzantine Chant (BC) as otherwise is called. The emphasis in the BC study is given onto the acoustic analysis, that is on both the musical performance and the musical sound. Some musicological features such as the tempo or the music intervals, are interrelated with their acoustic counterparts of the rate in beats per time and the ratios of frequencies. Also, other features such as the voice timbre may essentially be studied on the basis of the acoustic parameters. At the same time, the artistic expression in BC is a highly important
musicological characteristic and as such needs much work in order to be studied. The Greek word "ὕφος" which is used in BC for determining the musical style of the melody seems to be connected to the expression. This "ὕφος" as developed and still evolves in time, does not currently attract the most attention from both the chanters and Byzantine Chant's musicologists.
The web site is aspiring to be the motivation for studying such problems in order to improve the modern idea on Byzantine Chanting.
