21. Selected contributions in plasma astrophysics:
Effects on the evolution of planetary atmospheres,
of changes in the degree of collimation and proton flux of the solar
wind throughout the history of the Sun from a presumably early, fast
magnetic rotator (T-Tauri type star), to the present era slow magnetic
rotator (80).
An analytic demonstration of the structural stability of magnetized and
rotating jet-type outflows and the existence of oscillations in the beam
width and streamline shape caused by the interplay of magnetic, inertial and
pressure forces (78).
Derivation of general classes of nonpolytropic, self-similar, analytical
solutions of the MHD eq\-uations and systematic construction of models of
collimated hydromagnetic winds (63, 70, 74, 75, 77, 79).
Verification of the prediction about a strong heliolatitudinal dependence
of solar wind quantities with observations by the ULYSSES spacecraft
(62, 64, 66, 68, 76).
Prediction that there may be a strong heliolatitudinal dependence in the
solar wind quantities as implied by exact solutions obtained via a nonlinear
separation of the variables in the MHD equations (40, 43, 61).
Discovery of a quantitative criterion for the asymptotic transition of
stellar outflow exact solutions from cylindrical (jet-type) in fast magnetic
rotators to conical (wind-type) in slow magnetic rotators (58, 59, 73, 79).
Construction of characteristics in several classes of exact self-similar
MHD solutions and demonstration that the novel critical points that select
a unique solution are the modified by self-similarity fast/slow MHD critical
points (67, 69, 73).
Construction of first two-dimensional models of hydromagnetic flows in
open magnetic fields with dead zones (22, 34).
A new two-dimensional model for solar coronal loops and demonstration of
the effect of flows in their breakup (45, 52, 57).
A model for the initial acceleration by radiation pressure of the jet in the
peculiar object SS433 and its optical line emission by subsequent
fragmentation via thermal instabilities outside the funnel of the accretion
disk formed around the compact component of the binary system (16, 18).
Construction of helically symmetric MHD equilibrium solutions (29, 53).
Illustration of the formation of shocks in cosmic wind-type
outflows and jets via time-dependent numerical simulations of the evolution of
perturbations (9, 10, 28, 32).
Demonstration of the existence of multiple transonic solutions with
shocks in steady, relativistic and quasi-two-dimensional astrophysical
wind-type outflows. Application to bright knots along extragalactic jets
such as in the jet of the Galaxy M87 (14, 21, 24).
Multiple transonic solutions and derivation of a new class of shock
transitions in steady, polytropic, nonrelativistic and quasi-two-dimensional
solar/stellar winds and jets with momentum addition and nonspherical
expansion (8, 12, 19).
Extension of Parker's basic theorem of magnetostatics to finite amplitude
perturbations, by using the Kolmogorof-Arnold-Moser theorem of mechanics,
showning that spatially symmetric
MHD equilibria are topologically unstable to finite amplitude nonsymmetric
perturbations. Suggestion that this property may indeed be the basis of the
continuous activity of the variable hydromagmetic fields in the Universe (7, 11
23, 35, 36, 60).
Developement of a widely applicable formulation for hydromagnetic equilibria
with one ignorable coordinate that includes previously known theorems as
special cases and facilitates the systematic construction of classes of exact
solutions (4, 5, 6).
Suggestion of an explanation for the observed small scale appearance of solar
photospheric magnetic field via the Rayleigh-Taylor and Kelvin-Helmholtz
instabilities in rising buoyant magnetic flux tubes through the solar
convective zone (3, 13).
Derivation of a general expression for Bernoulli forces on solid elliptical
cylinders embedded in nonuniform flows and application to equilibrium positions
of solar magnetic flux tubes (1, 2).
