About Gaia
About Gaia
Gaia the earth-goddess, half risen from the earth, raises her hands to plead for the lives of her Gigante sons, who are being slaughtered in the war with the gods. The goddess is depicted as a matronly woman, with heavy belly, full face, short curly hair, and a crown upon her head.
Gaia's Parents: None. She is "born" of Chaos, but this not really a birth; as Chaos receded, Gaia came into being.
Gaia's Spouse: Uranus; then Tartarus, Pontus
Children of Gaia: Oceanus, Coeus, Crius, the Titans Hyperion and Iapetus, Theia, Rhea, Themis, Mnemosyne

"Khronos (Time) , , , [also called] Herakles generated a huge egg, which, being filled full, by the force of its engenderer was broken in two from friction. Its crown became Ouranos (Heaven), and what had sunk downwards, Gaia (Earth). There also came forth an incorporeal god [Phanes or primeval Eros]."
