Professor of Statistics

Loukia Meligkotsidou

I am currently Professor of Statistics at the Department of Mathematics of University of Athens.

I obtained my PhD in statistics (under the supervision of Prof. Paul Fearnhead) in September 2005 from the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Lancaster University. I obtained my BSc in Statistics in June 2002 from the Department of Statistics at Athens University of Economics and Business.


Research

PhD

My PhD thesis is concerned with developing Filtering Methods for a number of statistical problems. Applications in the thesis are in the areas of Population Genetics, Phylogenetics, and Mixture Models. This research was an EPSRC funded project.

Other Research Interests

Apart from Filtering, Statistical Genetics and Mixture Models, my research interests include Bayesian Inference and Bayesian Model Choice, Computational Statistics and Markov Chain Monte Carlo Methods, Hidden Markov Models, Statistical Learning, Biostatistics and Econometrics.

Academic Activities


Teaching

During this accademic year I will be teaching undergraduate courses on Bayesian Inference and on Linear Models, and a postgraduate course on Bayesian Inference, at the Department of Mathematics of University of Athens.

Furthermore, I will be teaching Applied Econometrics at the MSc in Business Mathematics, and Multivariate Statistics at the MSc in Biostatistics and Health Data Science.
