Early Travel Tips

Detailed information concerning how to reach Chania and MAICH will appear in the web page later in spring 2002 and will be notified to participants by e-mail. If you wish to reserve early your travel flights we suggest the following:

Option 1: Fly to Athens International Airport ‘El. Venizelos’ and then use a transfer flight to Chania with either Olympic Airways, Aegean Airlines or Cronus Airlines.

Option 2: From Athens (where you can spend a couple of days) travel by ferry boat to Chania (direct trip). At least 1 boat leaves Piraeus Port every evening and arrival in Souda Port (just 2 km from MAICh) is early next morning.

Option 3: Fly to Chania directly using chartered flights. However this can be done from only a few European cities.

Option 4: Fly directly to Heraklion (largest city of Crete, 150 km E of Chania, with several flights from all major European Airports). Buses leave to Chania every hour (2h 30min). You can spend a day in Heraklion to visit Knossos (6 km from Heraklion), the most important city of the Minoan Civilization, and the Archaeological Museum of Heraklion.
