Traditional hotel Ianthe is located in Vessa, one of the medieval villages of Chios island with characteristic stone-made buildings.
Vessa is a castle-village with narrow, cobbled streets and and has kept in tact its medieval architecture. It was founded around 1450 by the Genoese.
Characteristic of the area is the cultivation of the famous mastic tree which grows only in this particular area of the island and nowhere else in the world.
In close proximity one may visit the archeological sites of medieval Anavatos and the Byzantine monastery of Nea Moni with fine mosaics, an UNESCO world heritage site.
In the south part of the island and very close to Vessa one may enjoy the several sandy or pebbled beaches and crystal clear waters.
