Ε029: Christian Literature

 

(Mandatory by choice, 4-hour course, 4 credits )

 

Course content:  1. The Bible and its literary value. 2. The Bible as a literary source from ancient times to this day. 3. Analysis and interpretation of biblical themes and motifs in Modern Greek literature: a) Song of Songs: comparative approaches, literary translations and their reception by 19th and 20th century authors, b) The figure of Mary Magdalene, c) Symbols, motifs and images in European and Modern Greek literature from the book of Revelation.   

 

As part of the course students may follow relative plays

Π058: Religious Themes of Modern Greek Literature

 

lective, 4-hour course, 4 credits)

 

Course content: 1. Introduction to the history of Modern Greek literature including an outline of the major literary schools and movements and reference to the most significant prose writers and authors. 2. Study and interpretation of religious themes, motifs and images of the Old and New Testament in the work of Greek poets (Solomos, Palamas, Kavafis, Sikelianos, Papatsonis, Seferis, Elytis, Empeirikos, etc.). 3. The religious feeling in the work of major Greek authors. 4. The influence of foreign religious poems on Modern Greek literature.

 

The students have the option to submit a paper and thus be exempt from the course exams
